Pros and Cons of Online Education

http://www.progressiveu.org/202304-cyber-education-the-good-the-bad-and-the-totally-outrageous

What this article talks about as the title says “CYBER EDUCATION, the good the bad and the totally outrageous.” Throughout the article the writer mostly talks about should we have most of our education done online and stop traditional education. He points out different aspects of why we should not change the learning system because different problems would lead from it. For example, " ‘People are not realizing that addiction to the Internet can wreak as much havoc in people’s lives as alcohol, drugs, and gambling’." There are people out in the world that try to help the online addicted people and if we change our learning system more people will become addicted. It is true what the writer says, “millions log on, but can’t log off”, this is true because since using computers is so common nowadays people do not know when to stop and log off.

In my own opinion the learning system is fine how it is; going to school is the best form of learning because if changed to online, people are giving more freedom which can lead to not doing their homework, failing classes, etc. When I think of online schooling I think of it as people that have jobs and do not have time to attend actual classes, and this is where online schooling is convenient because most of the time you are in charge of your work and hours. Now that technology is growing faster than we can imagine, sooner or later classes will end up all online and problems will occur when trying to communicate with society. What should happen in terms of education, keep the traditional education or move to online education?

  1. I agree that online or distance education could lead to failing classes, since you don't have a teachers telling you what to do or a classmate reminding you. It it something that you have to do on your own and could be more difficult that it seems. So if WE move to online education even though it is more advance technology and it is basically new, we might no be ready to start using that method as a leaning utility, right now traditional education has been approaching satisfactory results in terms of school education.

  2. I agree with Mariely with traditional education. If we use online education, we might be lost and 'out-of-the-topic' activities that teachers assigned us. Nowadays, students should be able to listen and communicate with teachers orally in classes. This will help them to prove their listening, writing, reading, and thinking skills rather than online education. If we don't have any of those skills, then it would be hard for future students to understand what teachers are assigning them for the activities.

  3. Online education should no take be over used. Traditional education is better that the online, because it provides students interaction with the teacher and classmates which is essential for the development of the human being. Students should be able to interact and discuss with the teachers because their speaking and discussion skills are essential for the future.Online education should be used for simple courses, but not for a complete plan of education.

  4. A very big conflict that I see with distance education is that the students of the course have to be very dedicated and really want to be involved with the course because it is easy to lose the sense of responsibility when it’s online. In particular with high-school students and somewhat under graduate students tend to postpone the work they have to do but end up doing it before class and having them study the same material but without a determined schedule will only work for those organized well planed students.

  5. once, i was involved on an online course, which was science in society, it was very interesting because of the topics we see, but this educational method wasnt good for me, or for students that arent the best raw models, as they have to be constantly checking their email with no one who reminds them on the breeze way or at home. even though this subject was easy, it was hard at the same time because of this reasons, even though the teacher was in ECA and i saw him every day, so imagine for a student like me where the teacher is in another country. online education doesnt work for everyone, but only to those students who are very good.
